Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
