Jennifer Lawrence States Speaking About Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Nation Apart

The star has revealed that she finds it inappropriate appropriate to speak out countering the Trump administration, worried it could intensify polarizing arguments and increase separation throughout the country.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Lawrence

In a recent interview, she shared, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was acting frantically without clear direction. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, celebrities fail to influence at all on electoral choices.”

The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Lawrence has spoken candidly about backing conservative and liberal presidential nominees in past elections. Brought up by conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democratic party and explaining she understood during the Obama era that voting Republican was voting against her own rights as a woman.

Earlier Remarks

Earlier in her career, she commented that a Trump victory might signal “a disaster” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “because I believe she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect abortion access.”

Industry Position

The star was aligned with numerous celebrities in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence public figures have over the public choices was emphasized by Trump’s victory.

“This upcoming term feels different,” commented she of his administration. “Since he made his plans clear. We understood his record for his first term. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”

Current Projects

The actor is highlighting the drama, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she plays a young mom who faces challenges with her mental health in the countryside. Speaking at a press conference for the film in the film festival, the star spoke about the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is nothing short of a genocide and it’s terrible.”

Additional Thoughts

She continued by saying that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the discourse of American politics right now and how that is going to be normalised to the kids now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”

Lawrence attempted to refocus frustration about the issue to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she said, in what many took to be a reference to the recent commitment supported by more than 4,000 arts community members to boycott certain cultural organizations.

Personal Connections

Lawrence, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her performance in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in Die, My Love. Although Lynne Ramsay has disputed the plot being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, Lawrence said that she did relate to elements of her character’s journey after the arrival of her second son, not long after production wrapped.

“There was concern regarding my baby,” she explained, “envisioning every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was already in therapy, but I got on a drug called that medicine and I took it for two weeks and it was effective.”

Career Moments

Jennifer Lawrence also discussed of the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the project while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.

“There’s a freedom,” she said, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
