Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Winning Display at Athlos in New York
The athlete achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in London.
The Olympic champion finished her 800m season with a win at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.
{The current Olympic gold medallist, who earned third place at the World Championships recently, excelled in an outstanding win in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a hamstring injury.
Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably easier for me to compete and be motivated to perform," stated the 23-year-old.
"The atmosphere at the event is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."
The female-exclusive event filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, introducing a festive vibe to traditional track, with musical performances and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to award the victors with their crowns.
Previous champions received sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.
The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, won the 100m and 200m double.
