Fianna Fáil candidate Jim Gavin Exits Ireland's Presidential Election With Immediate Effect
The Fianna Fáil nominee Jim Gavin has declared he is pulling out from the race for Ireland's head of state with "immediate effect".
He was scheduled to be among three contenders standing for the role of Irish president, alongside Independent candidate Catherine Connolly and Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys.
However, Sunday night he said through a declaration that he "erred which did not align with his character and the standards I set myself."
"After weighing these points, I've resolved to exit the election for president right away and reunite with my loved ones," he declared in his announcement.
Further updates expected.
